One Tonne Life is a prefabricated wooden house that aims to bring the environmental impact of its residents down to a lower level than any other house. The building is constructed entirely in wood – structural frame and surfaces, inside and out. The compact house has solar cells installed on all south-facing surfaces. This gives the architecture a strikingly closed look, balanced by rectangular glazing, mounted in protective wooden reveals. The reveals are designed to screen off the heat of the high summer sun, but let in the low winter sun.
