GROUND is the theme for issue 3/2026. Sometimes the foundations set the conditions. That was the case at the edge of Masthuggskajen in Gothenburg, where clay, seawater, sunken ships, barges and piles all had to be factored in when building Habitat.
Someone who, firmly grounded in his love of timber, especially likes looking ahead is Canadian architect Michael Green.
At other times, the foundation may already be in place. Then, as with the reused Lumi, timber can become the key to a new sustainable approach to building. Now the lessons learned in Uppsala are spreading across the world.
