The Wood Market in Karlstad
Swedish Wood is the lead organiser of the Wood Market in Karlstad, held in November each year. The programme includes an exhibition, seminars, dinner and the announcement of the year’s Knight of the Order of the Wood Market.
The Wood Market in Karlstad is a valuable platform for manufacturers and customers to meet. Each year, around a thousand visitors gather to exchange experiences and information on the wood industry, sawmills and trade in wood products, creating a natural meeting place for Swedish and international colleagues in the industry.
A brief history of the Wood Market in Karlstad
From its inception in 1962 until 1999, the Wood Market was organised by the Värmland Sawmills Association. The Association’s board quickly realised that enabling close contact between buyers and sellers of wood products could bring mutual benefits, and it was in the early 1960s, when thoughts turned to how this might be achieved, that the idea of the Wood Market in Karlstad was born. In 2005, the Swedish Forest Industries Federation/Swedish Wood took over lead responsibility for organising the Wood Market.
The wood industry’s award – Knight of the Order of the Wood Market
The year’s Knight of the Order of the Wood Market is traditionally announced at the Wood Market in Karlstad, one of the leading meeting places for Swedish and international players in the wood industry. Issued annually since 1962, the award recognises the people who have successfully taken the industry to new heights.
