Jury’s statement - Cederhusen:
With up to 13 storeys of solid wood, the Cederhusen development is seriously challenging concrete’s monopoly on residential construction. The buildings have inspired an entire industry, with timber frames gaining ground as a sustainable alternative for apartments. In densely developed Hagastaden, the Cederhusen blocks stand out with their detailed cedar shingle façades, providing a much-needed addition to the neighbourhood. With a façade composition inspired by early American tenements, a small piece of Manhattan has been added to Stockholm. Wood was found to be the best option for the complex foundations, showing the strength of the material in complex urban environments.
