Packed programme for live-streamed Wood Award Gala 2020

PRESS RELEASE The programme has now been drawn up for the Swedish Wood Award Gala, which will be streamed live on 2 December from Berns in Stockholm, Sweden. The winner of the Swedish Wood Award 2020 will be announced and trend hunter Stefan Nilsson will be making an appearance. The Wood Award Gala also has the honour of presenting a personal address from the Swedish Royal Family.

“We have a really exciting programme lined up to satisfy the huge international interest in wood construction. The gala will be translated into English live on site and will be watched by many architecture fans all over the globe. Of course, it feels amazing that the Wood Award Gala is also on the radar of HRH Crown Princess Victoria,” says Alexander Nyberg, who is responsible for the Swedish Wood Award at the industry organisation Swedish Wood.

The Swedish Wood Award will be live-streamed on 2 December from Berns in Stockholm and is honoured to be receiving a personal address from HRH Crown Princess Victoria, who is keen to join in this celebration of Swedish architecture in wood. The host for the evening is TV presenter and antiques expert Li Pamp. The programme includes contributions from two European architects, who give their take on the political climate in Europe right now and how this is helping to drive up demand for wood construction.

Trend expert Stefan Nilsson, also known as Trendstefan, will share his predictions for the future and examine how the pandemic is affecting us and how our behaviour is changing over time.

“The pandemic is having a huge effect on us, with talk about everything from how we work and produce things to longing for our own balcony when we're forced to work from home. At the Wood Prize Gala, I’ll be shining a light on the trends that are really relevant for the coming year, looking at areas such as health, community and new sustainability concerns,” says trend expert Stefan Nilsson.

About the Swedish Wood Award

The Swedish Wood Award – one of Sweden’s most prestigious prizes for architecture – is presented every four years to a new work in Sweden that demonstrates outstanding architectural qualities. The work may be a building, bridge or other structure where wood has been used to excellent effect, embracing the possibilities of the material while also reflecting and advancing Sweden’s architectural tradition.

The Swedish Wood Award 2020 received a total of 130 entries. Of these, the jury has visited 40 buildings and drawn up a shortlist of 12 nominees. The winner will be announced at the Wood Award Gala on 2 December, which will be live-streamed from Berns in Stockholm.
