Chakib Jaidi - moroccan designer

Swedish Wood engaged nine Moroccan designers in creating furniture on the theme of ‘Swedish wood meets Moroccan creativity and woodworking tradition’. The study trip is the next step in inspiring North African designers to use Swedish wood in more ways.

To me, Swedish wood is entirely in step with our modern furniture trends. Over my career, I have therefore worked to produce objects and furniture in this soft and easily workable material which has a special luminosity, thanks to its distinct golden colour. My creations are the fruit of a constant interplay between the idea and the manufacturing process, from start to finish.

Biog: Chakib Jaidi was born in Rabat in 1954 and in 1974 he headed to France to study at L’UPA in Toulouse. Having worked for a few years in the Antilles, he returned to Morocco, where he set up his practice Chakib Jaidi Architecture in 1986. Jaidi’s work spans a broad spectrum, from public and private housing to hotels and interior and furniture design.
