An escape from reality in charred wood

Cabin in the woods in Bohemia, Czech Republic by Uhlík architekti

SAY »CABIN IN the woods« and many will think of a Hansel and Gretel-style log cabin. That is not the case in the Czech region of Bohemia. Here Uhlík Architekti has created a modern escape for stressed Prague residents who want to get away in modern style.

“The client took us to a spot among the fields, forests and meadows, full of incredible rocks, a remote and forgotten place. The magical landscape and the client’s vision captured our hearts immediately,” says architect Petr Uhlík.

The little cabin, which measures 3.1 x 5.8 metres, leans jauntily against a stone boulder and has large glazed windows that can be shuttered over. All the exterior cladding is made from charred wood – and all the wood is sourced from fallen trees in the nearby forest.«
